GSA’s goals when it comes to teleworking are ambitious – 20-percent of eligible employees teleworking by the end of the this year, 50-percent teleworking by 2010. Naturally, those goals put a lot of pressure on Coleman’s office to deliver, starting with new laptops configured for the teleworking experience. Coleman says, fortunately, the teleworking initiatives correspond with GSA’s existing program to update and refresh technology and that the enterprise architecture is prepared to handle the first phase of the initiative, complete with 24/7 customer support. Additionally, Coleman says that readiness includes security measures like a LoJack-style tracking system for lost or misplaced laptops. Of course, there are still a ton of questions about how this will work, prompting her to consider expanding the blog that she has for the IT folks to the whole department, because while questions are good, answering the same question over and over again is tough.
