This morning’s federal news as heard on WFED:

The General Services Administration will buy close to 18,000 fuel-efficient vehicles from US automakers. The agency plans to spend $300 million dollars from the stimulus package. Among the vehicles to purchase 2,500 hybrid sedans by next Wednesday. The remaining vehicles will be ordered by June 1st. GSA says the plan balances energy-efficiency goals with the need to quickly stimulate the economy.

An ultimatum for Bush holdovers in the Pentagon: Government Executive reports they get the choice to sign President Obama’s ethics pledge or resign. Those who refuse to sign will have to leave their jobs by the end of April. They have until close of business today to make a decision.

President Barack Obama is promising a new electronic health records system for veterans. He says the system will help cut back on delays in health care for veterans. It would work by generating an electronic health record that follows service members in the military and then later in the medical system at Veterans Affairs.
