  • The Navy’s new head of personnel takes over. Vice Adm. Robert Burke becomes the branch’s 58th Chief of Naval Personnel, taking over for Vice Adm. Bill Moran. Prior to his new job, he was the director of Military Personnel Plans and Policy Division. Moran is on the move as well becoming the 39th Vice Chief of Naval Operations. (Navy)
  • Big contract award for Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems sector. The Navy awards it a contract potentially worth over $400 million for production of the Aegis Weapon System’s Radar Transmitters, equipment for the Missile Fire Control System, and other engineer services. The Navy is only partially involved though, over 80 percent of purchases are being made by Japan and the Republic of Korea. (Defense Department)
  • Everyone knows the Army holds its soldiers to high standards, well the branch has a new way of evaluating its civilian employees now. It announces its transition to the new Defense Performance Management and Appraisal Program. It will rate employees at Levels 1, 3, or 5 with 5 being the best. Military and civilian supervisors will have to perform at least 3 formal performance reviews every year.  (Army)
