July 30, 2013 — This week on “Federal Tech Talk”, host John Gilroy interviews Blake Hall, co-founder of a company called ID.me.
Most federal IT professionals have wrestled with single sign on issues with a variety of systems.
Today’s interview takes single sign on to a personal basis – making sure veterans get the benefits they have earned.
Blake is a veteran of the U.S. Army and he noticed that, when he left the service, there was no way he could formally identify himself as a veteran to a variety of organizations.

During the interview, he contrasts his experience with that of a person who retires from the armed forces.
Generally speaking, when this kind of transition takes place, there is a more formal way of identifying yourself for veterans’ benefits.
His solution is to establish a company who will act as a trusted third party in order to provide electronic identification for veterans.
His ideas have been well received at large organizations like Microsoft.
