Trends in global defense spending

October 8, 2013 — This week on “Off the Shelf”, Jack Midgley, a director in Deloitte’s Global Defense Consulting Practice, discusses Deloitte’s recent report “Global Defense Outlook 2013/Balancing security and prosperity.”

The report examines current policies, practices and trends impacting defense planning and profiles of the top 50 nations who account for 97% of global defense spending.

Midgley discusses some the key trends highlighted in the report including growth of special operations forces, drones and cyber-warfare capabilities.

He also provides an overview of the Top 50 defense spenders and the relative standing of the United States.
