BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Anthony Lamb scored 17 points, pulled down eight rebounds and hit the bucket that wrested the lead back to Vermont, which pulled away over the last 15 minutes to defeat Northeastern 75-70 Sunday afternoon.
Lamb was 6 of 16 from the floor, but sank a jumper with 15:14 remaining that swung the lead back to the Catamounts, 37-36, and sparked an 11-2 run that had Vermont ahead for good at 46-38. Lamb and Stef Smith each scored four points in the surge. Smith finished with 13 points, as did Everett Duncan. Vermont (8-3) has won its last five.
Jordan Roland led the Huskies (5-6) with 20 points, Jason Strong added 13 and Donnell Gresham Jr. 12.
Roland shot Northeastern ahead 36-35 with a jumper at 15:28, but then came Lamb’s bucket and a stretch where Northeastern missed three shots, all 3-pointers, picked up three fouls and turned the ball over once.
Vermont led by 10 with two minutes remaining before Bolden Brace and Strong made 3-pointers. The teams traded the lead nine times with four ties.
