FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tajon Buchanan scored his eighth goal of the season and the New England Revolution beat the Colorado Rapids 1-0 on Wednesday night to break the MLS record for points in a season with 73.
New England (22-4-7), the Supporters’ Shield winner, broke the mark of 72 for a 34-match season set by Los Angeles FC in 2019 . The Revolution have one game left in the regular season, at home game against Inter Miami remaining Nov. 7.
New England coach Bruce Arena tied Sigi Schmid’s MLS record with his 240th regular-season victory.
Buchanan settled a cross from Adam Buksa with his chest, took two touches to get away from a defender, and slotted a shot past William Yarbrough from a difficult angle in the 74th minute.
Colorado (15-7-10) clinched a playoff berth Saturday.
SPORTING KANSAS CITY 2, GALAXY 0
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Johnny Russell scored twice to extend his goals streak to eight games and Sporting Kansas City beat Los Angeles to move into first place in the Western Conference.
Kansas City (17-7-7) has 58 points, tied with Seattle atop the conference, and has won six of its last eight games.
The 31-year-old Russell, who has a career-high 14 goals this season, ran onto a cross by Gadi Kinda, burst past a defender and beat goalkeeper Jonathan Bond to open the scoring in the 40th minute and scored again in the 82nd — his 10th goal in the last eight games — to give Sporting a 2-0 lead.
Sporting Kansas City, which clinched a playoff berth with a 2-1 win at Seattle on Saturday, is assured of no worse than the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference.
Aké Arnaud Loba and Walker Zimmerman also scored for Nashville.
Brandon Vázquez and Brenner scored for Cincinnati, and Nashville had an own goal.
WHITECAPS 2, MINNESOTA UNITED 1
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Brian White scored and played a role in a Minnesota United own goal in Vancouver’s victory.
The Whitecaps (12-9-11) leapfrogged over three teams into fifth place in the Western Conference. Minnesota (12-11-9) is tied for eighth with Real Salt Lake.
White gave Vancouver a two-goal lead in the 64th minute with his team-leading 12th of the season. Vancouver got on the board late in the first half on Michael Boxall’s own goal. White chested the ball past goalkeeper Tyler Miller and it hit Boxall and rolled in.
Fanendo Adi scored for Minnesota in extra time.
UNION 2, TORONTO FC 2, TIE
TORONTO (AP) — Substitute Sergio Santos scored on a header in the 77th minute to give Philadelphia the draw with Toronto FC.
Alejandro Bedoya opened the scoring for the Union (13-8-11) in the opening minute.
Jozy Altidore tied it in the 66th, and Toronto (6-17-9) took the lead in the 70th on Jack Elliott’s own goal.
CREW 3, ORLANDO CITY 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Lucas Zelarayán had a goal and two assists and Columbus beat Orlando City 3-1 to keep the defending champion Crew’s slim playoff hopes alive.
Columbus (11-13-8) has 41 points, three behind seventh-place D.C. United for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Orlando City (12-9-11), which had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped, fell to fifth in the conference with 47 points.
Miguel Berry and Derrick Etienne also scored for the Crew. Robin Jansson scored for Orlando City.
D.C. UNITED 1, RED BULLS 0
WASHINGTON (AP) — Kevin Paredes scored in the ninth minute and D.C. United held off New York.
D.C. United (13-14-5) snapped a four-match winless streak. New York (12-12-7) had its eight-game undefeated streak come to an end.
Nigel Robertha got past the defense along the right side and sent it across the goal to find Paredes unmarked at the back post for a shot into an open net.
United goalkeeper Bill Hamid made five saves for his eighth shutout of the season.
ATLANTA UNITED 2, INTER MIAMI 1
ATLANTA (AP) — Luiz Araújo had a goal and an assist and Josef Martínez also scored to help Atlanta beat Inter Miami.
Martínez slipped behind the defense and ran onto a perfectly timed through ball by Araújo and rolled in a one-touch finish from near the spot to give Atlanta (12-9-10) a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute.
Gonzalo Higuaín converted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute for Miami (11-16-5) after Atlanta goalkeeper Bradley Guzan collided with Lewis Morgan. Araújo skipped a free kick from just outside the area to tie it in the 59th.
REAL SALT LAKE 2, FC DALLAS 1
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Damir Kreilach and Albert Rusnák each scored in the final 10 minutes and Real Salt Lake beat FC Dallas 2-1.
Kreilach scored his 15th goal of the season for Salt Lake (13-12-6) to tie it in the 80th. Rusnák put a low shot inside the far post off a feed from Justin Meram for the go-ahead goal.
Matt Hedges scored in the 20th minute for his first MLS goal since the regular-season finale in 2019. Ricardo Pepi, of the U.S. national team, entered in the 82nd and came close to scoring a tying goal for Dallas.
Dallas (6-15-11) has a 10-game winless streak.
NEW YORK CITY FC 1, FIRE 0
NEW YORK (AP) — Valentín Castellanos scored on a penalty kick and New York City FC beat Chicago.
New York City (13-11-8) moved past Orlando City into fourth in the Eastern Conference standings with 47 points.
The Fire (9-17-7) have never won at Yankee Stadium.
