The Defense Information Systems Agency envisions a unified global communications network that delivers information fast and on demand.

DISA has released a request for information that says the single network would replace three existing ones. By 2020, it says the wired and wireless network would provide bandwidth on demand where none is available now.

It would have “ubiquitous” end-to-end protection, ethernet access and speedy 100-G wavelength service.
