Federal employees in the Washington, D.C. metro area will be given the day off on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.

The Office of Personnel Management released the calendar year 2017 federal holiday schedule, including the plan for the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

“Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2017, falls on a Friday. An employee who works in the District of Columbia, Montgomery or Prince George’s Counties in Maryland, Arlington or Fairfax Counties in Virginia, or the cities of Alexandria or Fairfax in Virginia, and who is regularly scheduled to perform non-overtime work on Inauguration Day, is entitled to a holiday. (See 5 U.S.C. 6103(c).) There is no in-lieu-of holiday for employees who are not regularly scheduled to work on Inauguration Day,” OPM said on its website.

OPM also told federal employees that because Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday, most workers will take the holiday on Jan. 2.

Similarly, Veterans Day in 2017 falls on a Saturday, so employees will receive Friday, Nov. 10 as the holiday day off.

Other notable floating holidays include July 4th, which is a Tuesday next year, and Columbus Day, which is Monday, Oct. 9.

OPM also detailed the federal holiday schedule for 2018 through 2020.

In 2009, Inauguration Day fell on the day after the Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday holiday, giving some feds in the Washington, D.C. region a four-day weekend.

In 2013, President Barack Obama’s second inauguration occurred on a Monday.

The national guard and reserves, once again, also will support the inauguration.
