The federal hiring process is an ongoing topic of conversation. Over the past several years the executive branch has taken several steps to help spotlight the need to transform the federal hiring process. As the nation’s largest employer, the federal government processes more than 22 million applications and hires approximately 350,000 workers. Loren DeJonge Schulman, Associate Director, Performance and Personnel Management, OMB and Stephanie O’Neill, Performance Manager, OMB, joined the show to discuss OMB’s efforts, what a recently released memo on improving the federal hiring process means, and how the agency is helping to make skills-based hiring and other reforms happen.
