These are Federal News Network’s basic requirements for columns:
- 750-1,250 words. There is some flexibility in length, but this should be the target.
- The column/commentary cannot be product-focused or a marketing piece, but should show thought leadership on a specific topic.
- This means we do not allow any discussion of vendor-specific products, services, work performed, or other promotions of a specific vendor in commentaries.
- Proprietary research, such as industry surveys, may be discussed.
- The column should be at least 75% exclusive content to Federal News Network.
- We do edit the column/commentary but mainly for style and grammar.
- Please do not double space after periods.
- Only capitalize the first word of the headline
- Hyperlink sources and references. Do not use footnotes.
- Depending on the column/commentary, there may be opportunity for the SME to come on the air to discuss their column. This will occur at our discretion.
- Many times there is no real deadline on our end. If there is a timeliness issue from your perspective, please let us know.
- Please send a high resolution photo of the author.
