Surrendered sword returned to Navy after 200 years
The descendent of a British general returns a naval sword seized during the 1814 attack on Washington, D.C.
Hamilton is the descendant of British Army Gen. Robert Ross, who received the sword from U.S. Navy Commodore Joshua Barney.
As part of the 1814 defense of Washington, Barney led 600 sailors and Marines against British invaders in the Battle of Bladensburg. His troops were eventually overrun, and Barney, who was injured, surrendered his sword to Ross.
