Colorful sculptures made of plastic debris collected from beaches are on display at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C. The exhibit, entitled “Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea”, runs from May 27 through Sept. 5. The sculptures of marine animals are designed to draw attention to the 315 billion pounds of plastic in oceans today and underscore the need for wildlife conservation.
