Photos of the amazing, moving, important and amusing things happening in the federal community.
Working with NOAA’s Aircraft Operations Center, the NWS Office of Water Prediction Airborne Snow Survey Program has been measuring the liquid water content (Snow Water Equivalent, or SWE) of snow on the ground throughout the northern part of the country. These airborne SWE measurements are used by NWS offices when issuing river and flood forecasts, water supply forecasts, and spring flood outlooks. Here, one of NOAA’s four Twin Otter aircraft works in the Great Lakes Region. More info on the project can be found here: www.nohrsc.noaa.gov.
