The DoD inspector general report to determine whether Military Departments properly managed small arms ammunition funds in support of the Global War on Terror has achieved its goal. But the answer is not very encouraging. They found many examples of sloppy accounting and oversight of the weapons and they also discovered the process was marred by high turnover rates.In Afghanistan, auditors found that serial numbers of weapons were not accurately recorded and in other cases they were not even reported to the DoD small arms serialization program.
