DHS honors heroic employees with Valor Awards

The Homeland Security Department honored 11 employees and two local law enforcement officers for their heroic efforts on and off the job.

Aviation Survival Technician 2nd Class Christopher Leon Christopher Leon, an aviation survival technician 2nd class with the Coast Guard, rescued four persons from a submerged vessel 60 miles offshore of San Francisco. Leon remained with one of the survivors in the water for more than 2 hours as the rescue helicopter left to refuel.
