Today’s technology innovation sounds like the perfect storm: millions of new mobile devices, a need for collaboration on sensitive documents, and an increased security concern. The set of events is forcing federal information technology professionals to respond with a more flexible and resilient approach.

Doug Jones, technical core competency lead for IT modernization at Leidos joined Federal News Radio to address these issues. He has been at the leading edge of working with a wide range of agencies to accomplish these difficult goals. He discussed some of the challenges with real-time collaboration and coming to grips with rapidly changing hardware.

Rapidly changing environments can be managed. In fact, Jones is quite optimistic in detailing how large organizations, like Google, can actually increase efficiency during rapidly changing technical environments. He addressed methods of handling scale and extensibility in unpredictable environments

It really comes down to changing the paradigm of security, looking at it differently. Looking at it in a data-centric model and a role-based model.

Their goal for their SREs is no more than 50% toil. And the reason why they have that is, the other 50% of the time, their SREs are doing projects to eliminate toil, and then do new capabilities and enhancements.
