Cream of the Cream of the Crop

The Senior Executives Association will have its ultra-classy State Department dinner tomorrow night. The guests of honor are a lot of people you work with.

Many of you will be there in spirit even if you are in fact sitting at home or walking the dog. The black tie affair is held each year to honor winners of Presidential Rank Awards. Winning one, like the dinner itself, is a very big deal.

There isn’t room here to list the solid money-saving or awesome (or both) accomplishments of the winners. But the accomplishments they (and you as part of their team) got an award for would soften the heart of the most dedicated bureaucratic-beater politician.

Check the list of winners to see if anybody from your agency, or a friend, is on the list. If so, ask them what they did. It’s likely to make you very, very proud. With that said…the winners (by department) are:

Changing Bosses

Alan Balutis, an expert in presidential transitions, will talk about how they work and how to survive the one coming up, at the next (April 28) luncheon of the Council of Former Federal Executives. He’s chair of the National Academy of Public Administrations public service panel. COFFE meets monthly at the Holiday Inn Westpark in Rosslyn (Va.).
