An Aug. 23, 2011 earthquake shook Washington, D.C., sending federal workers outside and causing $15 million in damage to the Washington Monument.
The 5.9 magnitude earthquake in August caused greater damage than initially thought. Follow-up inspections found more cracks in the topmost pyramidion section. (Aug. 23, 2011)
