The U.S. Coast Guard has released the contestants for its annual Shutter Shootout photo contest, and the first round of voting has begun at its Facebook page.
Fireman Mason Weingarten, a crewmember aboard the Boston-based Coast Guard Cutter Seneca, releases the remains of Engineman Second Class Leon “Butch” Joseph LeBlanc to sea, Jan. 26, 2017, near Nubble Lighthouse, in Maine. LeBlanc enlisted in the Coast Guard on Aug. 26, 1958, and rose to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer before separating from service in 1962.
