Today’s interview is with Chris Howard, vice president, Federal, <a href="https://www.nutanix.com/" target="_blank">Nutanix</a>.

Nutanix began in 2009 by helping federal agencies with VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure). From this humble beginning they have expanded to over 2,000 employees and becoming leaders in the world of the enterprise cloud.

The discussion starts off with a reference to the <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/6004" target="_blank">Modernizing Government Technology Act</a>. The focus of this legislation is acknowledging that 80 percent of the federal IT spend is on maintenance. They are encouraging federal IT professionals to modernize systems to reduce cost and improve security.

During the interview, Howard details how Nutanix helps the move to the cloud. Nutanix provides systems that combine compute and storage into one system. Rather than maintaining separate systems, you maintain only one. This saves money on administration and the central control increases the ability to lock down systems from cyber attacks.
