The Homeland Security Department awarded a contract worth as much as $460 million to Unisys Corp. to enhance border security management systems for the Customs and Border Protection directorate.

Unisys is expecting to improve existing and to develop new border-management systems under the single-award indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity contract that includes a one-year base period and four one-year options, according to a July 19 Unisys press release.

The objective of the work is to establish operation maintenance and systems development to support BEMS’ services.

Unisys will provide technical support personnel who are experts in the systems engineering life cycle (SELC) process and information technology. Unisys also will support software development and perform required SELC analysis, design, programming and testing, according to BEMS’ request for proposals released in April 2012.

The contract furthers a 10-year relationship between Unisys and the Customs and Border Protection.

“This new work builds upon Unisys’ successful partnership with CBP and broadens our longstanding support of the mission-critical solutions that help protect the U.S. homeland,” said Steve Soroka, Unisys vice president for homeland security.

The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection is a branch of DHS that seeks to secure U.S. borders. The Office of Information and Technology’s Border Enforcement and Management Systems Programs Office supports business processes of implementing and maintaining CBP automated systems, according to the RFP.
