Attorney: Man shot by Olympia police is paralyzed

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — An attorney representing the Olympia half brothers who were shot by a police officer last month says Bryson Chaplin is paralyzed from the waist down but his family hopes his paralysis is temporary. Attorney David Beninger told KING-TV of Seattle (http://is.gd/p3Yfd1) Chaplin and Andre Thompson did not assault the officer with a skateboard. Chaplin, who was shot up to five times, is still being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Thompson is recovering at home after being shot once in the side. Beninger says the shot broke some of his ribs. Deputy Chief Brad Watkins of the Thurston County sheriff’s office says the investigation of the shooting is awaiting a crime lab analysis, which could take another four to six weeks.
