Hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent trying to rescue the American economy, and hundreds of billions more could be spent by the time all is said and done. A second economic stimulus package in the range of $300-billion dollars will be debated by Congress during its lame-duck session next week. Gene Steuerle is vice president of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. He’s also served as former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Tax Analysis.
