From gathering weather data in the air to providing relief on the ground, federal employees snap into action as Hurricane Matthew ravages the East Coast.
Air Force Gen. Joseph Lengyel, chief, National Guard Bureau, takes a call at the National Guard Coordination Center, Arlington, Virginia, Oct. 6, 2016, while coordinating the National Guard response to Hurricane Matthew. The center is monitoring the storm and National Guard support to civilian authorities around-the-clock. Members of the Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina National Guard already are at work, and thousands more stand ready if needed.
