All signs point to Republican victories in today’s elections. The question has become, How big will those margins of victories be?
Politico reports that a Gallup Poll found Republicans were 15 percentage points ahead of Democrats among likely voters, 55 percent to 40 percent, but they led by just 4 points among all registered voters, 44 percent to 40 percent.
It’s not just 2010 that’s on the line for Democrats. Big losses could spell a major setback in the 2012 elections as well, according to Politico.
Democrats have focused on one particular group: women. Women pulled through for Obama in 2008. Now, Democrats need to win women “by a huge margin, and they need them to turn out in force.”
Government shutdown?
Many Republicans have run on the promise of not raising the debt limit — even if it means shutting down government.
Politico reports that last week House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Republicans will prove they’re committed to reducing costs of running federal agencies and examining pay for federal workers.
And how will the elections affect the tech industry and government market? TechAmerica hosts an election recap Thursday.
Also watch for … an increase in porn?
The Economist reports on a study that found searches for porn increased in states that had voted for the winners of political races and decreased in those states that had voted for the losers.
That means if the polls are correct, there will be “red faces in the red states for those furtive surfers who are caught in the act. In the blue states, meanwhile, a fit of the blues will mean the screens stay switched off,” according to the article.
