NSPS employees get 2.26 percent pay raise

Federal Times reports on the raise employees in the National Security Personnel System will be getting this month.

Every employee covered by the Defense Department’s National Security Personnel System is getting a raise this month. More than 54,000 workers are getting a 2.26 percent pay boost.

A department memo obtained by Federal Times says the same workers are also eligible to receive performance-based bonuses. Those will be determined by individual agencies.

The raise is coming out of funds that would otherwise have paid for General Schedule within-grade increases, quality step increases and promotions. Step increases for General Schedule employees will range from 2.6 to 3.3 percent.

In the past – Defense had pulled money for NSPS raises from government-wide pay increases. But President Obama and Congress have frozen those increases for two years. As a result, NSPS raises will be limited in this last year of existence of the performance-pay system.

The Pentagon is now is the process of moving all remaining NSPS workers back to their old pay system. That’s set to be completed by the end of this year.
