Former OSC head Bloch could avoid prison time

Scott Bloch, the former head of the Office of Special Counsel in the Bush administration, may get a chance to avoid going to prison.

Federal prosecutors on Tuesday ordered a last-minute delay in Scott Bloch’s sentencing, scheduled Monday, to try to save a plea deal that would allow Bloch to go on probation instead of serving hard time, TPM reports.

The sentencing is rescheduled for March 10.

Bloch pleaded to a misdemeanor charge of criminal contempt of Congress in April 2010, admitting to withholding information from House investigators that he had hired technicians to “scrub” computer files used by political appointees.

A ruling this month by a federal judge had said that Bloch must spend at least a month in jail for the offense.
