As the Veterans Affairs Department continues to try to solve staffing problems throughout its system of hospitals and clinics, the department’s inspector general has just finished its first-ever examination of what the workforce shortfalls look like at a local level. The IG surveyed 140 VA facilities. The results show some medical centers’ struggles are more complex than others, but there are also a lot of commonalities. They also show the shortages aren’t just in medical fields. Michael Missal, VA inspector general, spoke with Federal Drive with Tom Temin about the new findings.
