Imagine this. A submersible aircraft that can fly hundreds of nautical miles, withstand rough waters and then go underwater to drop off commandos in enemy territory. That’s what the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is working on. In fact, the agency says it wants to “maintain its tactical advantage for future coastal insertion missions, DARPA is interested in exploring radical new technologies that can provide a game changing DoD capability for inserting small teams, clandestinely, along coastal locations.”
