Summer in Afghanistan is called “120 days of Wind” by some. But this one may be called “The Long Hot Summer”. Pentagon sources say the war in the southern and eastern parts of the country will get “hot soon” and fighting in those areas may be very intense. There are two reasons. Number 1 is an increase in US forces. There are about 31,000 there now and another 17,000 will added eventually. Number two; in the South and East, mergers between entities fighting with the Taliban may create a more cohesive force.
