Today, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is in Alabama. He’s visiting Fort Rucker to observe a number of training exercises including Helicopter Over-Water survival training. He’s also going to visit Maxwell Air Force Base. It was a year ago that he said, while at Maxwell, that some military leaders were “stuck in old ways of doing business.” Today’s visit comes amid stark changes in the way the military does business because of the economic downturn.
