According to a report released in 2016, California was the state with the largest federal workforce in fiscal year 2015, with 150,576 executive branch employees. Virginia was a close second with 143,456 federal workers, followed by the District of Columbia with 132,892.
Delaware had the fewest number of federal workers in fiscal year 2015, with just 3,024 executive branch employees working in the state.
