  • Attempts to fix the problematic Healthcare.gov are not enough to save the health IT contractor CGI from losing its contract to run the site. Reuters reports the federal government will now enlist the services of the company Accenture. Since the website rolled out at the start of October, CGI worked throughout to try and fix the problems. The problems started evening out in December. Even so, CGI's contract is scheduled to end in late February. Once that's over, a one-year contract agreement with Accenture will start. • June 5th is the deadline for cloud vendors to prove they can meet federal security standards. The soft deadline for cloud vendors that want to qualify is actually right about now. The General Services Administration says it takes almost six months for a company to earn approval from the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP. That's if a company decides to earn the qualification on its own. The Federal Times reports it takes about four and a half months to pass through a review by a federal agency. FedRAMP director, Maria Roat, says companies with a smaller federal footprint are likely better off working with agencies directly to earn a certification. FedRAMP relies on about 300 different security controls based on guidelines from the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

  • Cybersecurity is becoming less of a concern for chief information officers, according to Gartner. The technology research company surveyed 2,300 CIOs from across the world. Security now ranks eighth on CIOs strategic priority lists. A drop from the number 1 spot a decade ago. Among CIOs in North America alone, security ranks slightly higher, coming in at number five on their priority lists. One of the reasons for the shifting priorities the rise of the chief information security officer role within organizations. According to Gartner, CISOs have helped relieve CIOs of their cyber duties allowing them to concentrate on other issues. Mobile, cloud computing and analytics are all higher priorities for CIOs than cybersecurity. Also on the list, according to the Wall Street Journal, infrastructure and data center investments.
