With the help of robotics, nanotechnology and neuroscience, the Defense Department is creating an army that may look like the troops of today but is faster, stronger and more resilient, Wired Magazine reports.
“Eyes are veiled by self-assembling contact lenses that transmit text messages and take blood pressure readings. That skin is made up of nanowires laid onto flexible rubber. And the arm underneath? A prosthetic — controlled by brain implant,” according to the article.
In the next decade, Darpa will create prosthetics that are fully integrated with a person’s neural signal. “Micro-arrays” will be implanted in the brain to allow, arms, legs and even fingers and toes to move with thoughts alone.
