Pentagon procurement chief Ashton Carter will resign his tenure at Harvard University in order to stay at the Defense Department as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics.
Carter said in an interview with Aviation Week that he intends to give up his tenure and stay at DoD “as long as the president and the secretary of defense want me to keep doing what I’m doing.”
Tenured faculty members at Harvard are allowed a two year leave of absence for public service. In Carter’s case, that period would lapse in April.
Before assuming the DoD post, Carter was chair of the International and Global Affairs faculty at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
