Dr. Phyllis Schneck, the deputy undersecretary for cybersecurity and communications at the Department of Homeland Security, joined Federal News Radio for a free online chat. Schneck discussed how DHS is reinforcing five themes during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, including workforce training and improving federal employees’ cyber-intelligence quotient. Schneck also will provide an update on efforts to protect federal networks, including the continuous diagnostics and mitigation (CDM) and EINSTEIN programs.

Schneck took part in the chat after her recent appearance on Ask the CIO on Federal News Radio 1500 AM in the Washington, D.C. metro area and online everywhere.

Federal News Radio’s executive editor Jason Miller moderated the chat.

Dr. Phyllis Schneck is the deputy undersecretary for Cybersecurity and Communications for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD).  She is the chief cybersecurity official for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and supports its mission of strengthening the security and resilience of the nation’s critical infrastructure.  Schneck came to DHS from McAfee, Inc., where she was chief technology officer for global public sector. She was responsible for the technical vision for products and service for public sector as well as global threat intelligence, industrial control system security and telecom strategy. She drove strategic thought leadership around technology and policy in cybersecurity and led initiatives in adaptive security and intelligence in networks for critical infrastructure protection and cross-sector cybersecurity.
