McCormack heading back to DHS as its CIO

President Obama announced his intention to appoint Luke McCormack as the DHS chief information officers. McCormack spent the last 19 months as the Justice CIO.

Luke McCormack is heading back to the Homeland Security Department.

McCormack, the Justice Department chief information officer, will take on the same role at DHS, replacing Richard Spires, who left in May. Federal News Radio first reported McCormack was the leading candidate in September.

President Barack Obama announced his intention to appoint McCormack late Thursday night.

This would be McCormack’s second go around at DHS. From 2005 to 2012, he served as the CIO for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement directorate. Additionally, he spent time at Customs and Border Protection as the acting director of the Infrastructure Services Division from 2004 to 2005, director of Architecture and Engineering from 2002 to 2003, and director of Systems Engineering from 1999 to 2002.

McCormack has been the Justice CIO since February 2012.

In addition to his role at DHS, McCormack is expected to continue leading the information security and identity management committee of the federal CIO Council.
