Interior Department and Forest Service officials say a new $182 million contract awarded to Booz Allen Hamilton will make it easier for travelers to plan their visits to national parks, lands and waters.
A new bill would get rid of law enforcement units at the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management and transfer those authorities to local police instead. The legislation also requires both secretaries at the agriculture and interior departments develop a grants program for states who will use local law enforcement to police federal lands.
This year’s tree came from the Chugach National Forest in Alaska, traveling more than 4,000 miles before making its final journey to the Capitol’s West Lawn.
The House on Tuesday passed a bill making it easier for part-time federal land management employees to become full-time.
