The Senate passed its version of the economic stimulus bill, including billions of dollars in technology spending from broadband incentives to agency specific systems to health IT.

Vendors will see the lion’s share of this spending as agencies contract for services.

“[The new stimulus package] seems to understand that technology is a common denominator to the challenges that face the country, and certainly those that specifically face the government,” says Phil Bond, president of TechAmerica, formerly known as the IT Association of America and AeA, today on the Daily Debrief.

Bond says that the government will be looking toward the best in the private sector when it comes to health IT, new procurement for green technology, new system upgrades, cybersecurity upgrades and border security programs.

He believes that vendors should start looking into opportunities right away.

“Obviously this is on a fast track, the House and Senate are both committed to getting this done as fast as humanly possible,” he says.

In order for vendors to prepare, Bond recommends that they do their homework by understanding how much money agencies could receive from the bill, and who are the key agency decision makers.

Bond says there will be a healthy competition for contracts from this new stimulus bill.
