An IT research company is calling on enterprise to be smarter with its wireless spending.

Analysts with Gartner Inc. found that 80 percent of companies will overspend on mobile services by an average of 15 percent through 2014.

“Our research shows that the majority of companies are not adequately managing their mobile uses or services,” said Phil Redman, a research vice president at Gartner. “They need to look more closely at their key user segments and requirements in order to match those needs with the right services and optimize their spending.”

Redman points to “contracts” as a way for companies to better manage wireless costs. For example, it’s recommended that companies move from individual liability plans to corporate liability plans to take advantage of corporate discounting.

“International roaming” is another area cost-cutting can be effective. Gartner advises companies to promote more smart phone use for email and to ask carriers for packages for remote workers.
