At last year’s Detroit marathon, organizers made sure they had the essentials. Water. Gatorade. And electronic medical records. Representatives from Henry Ford Hospital brought EMRs to the race to show organizers how the technology could help them care for runners on race day. Thanks to the EMRs, medical personnel were able to coordinate patient care in real time with other health care providers. All of the patient information was stored according to the runner’s bib number and kept on a secure server.
