NSA says its development methods are public

Slashdot and Threatpost report that the secretive NSA uses development methods that are public knowledge.

Despite its reputation for secrecy, the National Security Agency’s methods for development and information assurance are all public, Slashdot reports.

“Most of what we do in terms of app development and assurance is in the open literature now. Those things are known publicly now,” said Neil Ziring, technical director of the NSA’s Information Assurance Directorate, Threatpost reports.

Ziring said the agency has stringent requirements that an application must meet. NSA has also “joined together the security- and performance-testing processes in order to put apps through more realistic testing,” according to Threatpost.
