As lawmakers sought a ‘seal of approval’ for the Internet of Things, the National Institute for Standards and Technology gave federal agencies and private industry a better roadmap to future IoT cybersecurity concerns. NIST warned that without a standardized set of cybersecurity requirements in place, many IoT devices — from smart cars to the energy-efficiency sensors in the General Service Administration headquarters building — could be vulnerable to cyber attack.
