President Barack Obama just established a National Strategic Computing Initiative. Three agencies will lead the way: Energy, Defense and the National Science Foundation. The initiative calls for strong collaboration with academic and private partners. The work at one supercomputing facility is an example of what can be achieved through that collaboration. With a grant from the National Science Foundation, the Center for Computational Research has developed a supercomputer management tool that's being used to improve performance and limit backlogged requests at industry, academic and government supercomputing facilities. Now they have plans to make it even better. Dr. Tom Furlani is director of the University at Buffalo's Center for Computational Research. He joined Jason Miller on the Federal Drive with more.
