The Department of Agriculture got out of the gate quickly when meeting the Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) initiative to reduce the number of Internet gateways agencies use.

Charles Christopherson, USDA’s Chief Information Officer, says the agency now has three.

That’s one reason USDA’s Federal Information Security Management Act score improved to a “C” from a “F.”

But that is not the only reason.

Christopherson says he has spent the last year as CIO shoring up the agency’s IT security, but also developing plans and strategies to keep Agriculture on track for the next three to five years.
