The Air Force has been extremely busy over the past decade — and with no sign of a let-up in its operational tempo, senior officials are looking for creative ways to free up airmens’ time to focus on their primary missions — and spend time with their families. The latest idea is to cut back on the amount of mandatory computer-based training airmen have to endure. That was one of the news tidbits that came out of the annual Air Force Association conference in National Harbor, Maryland last week. Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu wrote about several of those lesser-noticed news items this week.

The Defense Secretary is planting so-called innovation centers all over. First came San Jose, then Boston. Now Austin, Texas. Is he overdoing it? Will these DIUXes produce tangible results?
