Perhaps the most influential committee with oversight of how the agencies function is the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The Chairman of that committee, Joe Lieberman, offered some insight into his thoughts about how the State Department and Pentagon should move forward in Afghanistan at an event yesterday hosted by the Brookings Institution.
Dealing With Systems At DoD
Complexity is the most descriptive word to describe the work government IT professionals are doing. That complexity may be most prominent at the Defense Department. A new book called “Organizing For A Complex World: Developing Tomorrow’s Defense and Net-Centric Systems” details the steps to deal with this challenge. Kristen Baldwin, Deputy Director for Software Engineering and System Assurance at the Defense Department, talked about the importance of the book, and what her team is working on at DoD.
