Today’s interview is with Anthony Calamito, the chief evangelist of Boundless. His company helps federal information technology professionals use open source geospatial information to solve complex problems.
The best way to understand Boundless it to compare it to Red Hat. Red Hat provides support and training for an open source operating system called Linux. In a similar vein, Boundless provides assistance with geographic information provided by the open source community. Some people compare it to having an “insurance policy” when you dive into the world of open source.
Many federal agencies produce so much work it has to be stored in Content Management Systems (CMS). This is great for text-based information but weak for graphical information like maps. During the interview, Calamito talks about a Boundless offering called Geospatial CMS. It can help in a wide range of agency problems from health information to weather to mapping.
They have an active Twitter account and you may want to visit their website to read a recent blog that gives a good summary of their commercially supported open GIS platform.
