VA launches online hospital comparison

The VA launches online tools to allow vets to compare VA hospitals.

The Veterans Affairs Department is raising the bar for its health care centers with some new online tools that allow vets to compare the performance of the VA’s 153 hospitals.

The goal is to inspire further improvements at the hospitals, VA officials told Government Health IT.

The performance measures focus on acute care, patient safety and intensive care services. Vets – and their families can use the tools through the LINKS dashboard at the VA’s Hospital Compare website.

The dashboard uses traffic light colors to show the relative strengths of each hospital. The tools also show areas that need improvement at the national, regional and the local level.

The site is similar to the Hospital Compare Web site used by the private sector. Both sites track data like mortality rates and re-admissions.
